What inspired you to become a filmmaker?

My path as a filmmaker began with a simple yet powerful goal: to uplift Vietnam's often overlooked film industry and introduce Vietnamese cinema to the world. The vision of becoming a transformative force for the Vietnamese film industry served as my unwavering motivation. Doubts loomed: Can I achieve this audacious dream? However, I stand firm in the belief that remarkable directors are born from the audacity to dream the unimaginable. I am driven by the relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries and leaving an enduring mark on the worldwide cinematic landscape, aspiring to be one of the greatest Vietnamese filmmaker of all time.

What's is your all time favorite film? Why is it special to you?

"My all-time favorite film is “The Scent of Green Papaya” by Vietnamese-French filmmaker Tran Anh Hung. This film is special to me because it doesn’t rely heavily on dialogue, yet it tells a compelling and emotional story through its actions and the performances of the cast. The way it weaves together the narrative with such minimal dialogue is a testament to Tran Anh Hung’s mastery of visual storytelling.

The film’s portrayal of Vietnamese culture and daily life is beautifully captured, making it a sensory experience that transports you to the heart of Vietnam. Tran Anh Hung’s consistent style and artistic vision shine through, creating a mesmerizing and emotionally resonant work of art. “The Scent of Green Papaya” is not just a film; it’s a masterpiece that celebrates the power of cinema to convey emotions, cultural richness, and the human experience."

What tips would you give aspiring filmmakers who are just starting their careers?

Stay open to new ideas, collaborate with others, and never stop experimenting and growing as a filmmaker. Remember that every step, no matter how small, gets you closer to your goals.
