Meet the Finalist: Alan Delabie, "Anatomy of An Antihero"
Tell us about yourself, and about Anatomy of An Antihero.
First of all, I’d like to thank New York Film Awards. It is an honor for us to have participated in the festival. My team and I are very excited to be finalists for "Best Narrative Feature 2019".
I am Alan Delabie, from France. I was first and foremost a high level martial artist and European Art Nunchaku Champion. I have been much publicized in many TV channels in France and Belgium. It was while watching Bruce Lee and other famous actors that my dream grew. Being small, I dreamed of going to Los Angeles to do cinema, I had this great determination in me. I was a dreamy but realistic boy because I knew that I had to work hard to make my dreams come true. I started making appearances in telefilms in France and Belgium. Then, a renowned Canadian producer, Jalal Merhi gave me the chance to be in his TV show "Road to Hollywood". His advice was decisive in the continuation of my career and my film projects. I started making short films like "Dying for love" with the incredible actress Catriona McColl, then a first feature film thriller "8 hours". I had the privilege of doing an "8 hours" preview as part of the reopening of a legendary cinema in San Diego, California, Ken Cinema. The TV channel Kusi News had invited me before to talk about my movie. It was also, a great experience!
It was after that "Anatomy of An Antihero" was born between France, Belgium, and U.S.A. Being in the final of your festival is really the beginning of something for me. I still can not believe it ! I wrote this script in the hope of attracting the attention of passionate drama-action movies. My team, my actors and some local American stars have trusted me for this project, I am very grateful to them.
Share a memorable moment you experienced working on this project.
The fight scene was a very memorable moment because we had very little time to rehearse before filming. We shot this scene in one day. It was physically ehausting, but in the end it was really great! We really enjoyed ourselves on the set!
Name 3 collaborators that you'd take with you to any other project.
I would say Meosha Bean our director, we still work together on many other projects. Also, my two friends, Richard Sumbu and Christopher Jermus. I could never have done this movie without them.
3 tips you’d like to share with aspiring artists in your field:
I would say to be creative despite the small budget of your film. Be yourself, original, while having your cinematographic references and, above all, do not let goof your drive!
What do you hope to achieve in your career in the next 5 years?
I would like to do comedy, but I also would like to get into horror movies. I try to stay focused on creating future projects, but the most important thing for me is to continue to do what I love most of all and that’s to be an actor.
Anatomy of An Antihero is nominated for Best Narrative Feature of the Year at the New York Film Awards.
